A fund has been established by the Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS) to perpetuate the memory of James Geiger, who died at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto on June 21, 2007, aged six days. James was the beloved son of John Geiger and Marina Jiménez. (Read John's remarks at the committal service for James.) The annual payout of this fund, part of the RCGS Endowment Fund, will go to the Society's Expeditions Committee, and will be used to encourage and support geographic expeditions, with a preference for those undertaken by young Canadians, fulfilling the Society's mandate "to make Canada better known to Canadians and to the world".

The Royal Canadian Geographical Society was founded in 1929 and is a non-profit organization. Its programs include:
- the Canadian Environment Awards, celebrating stellar individuals and groups demonstrating their respect for planet Earth;
- efforts to increase the emphasis on geography in Canadian schools and the need for geographic literacy;
- providing grants to university students for geographical research in Canada,
- providing grants to adventurous expeditions that expand our knowledge of and celebrate the natural heritage of Canada.
A tax-creditable receipt will be issued for all donations.
